PROJECT 6: Integrated Project: Design and Build 'An Amphitheatre Stage'

This is a group project,which consist of 3 parts: 6a, 6b and 6c. The group of this project is different with previous project, all groups are mixed up, and 12 new group are formed which the members are come from 7 different major. We formed a company called Intensity, since we are group 10.
This is our company logo.

For project 6a, we need to design an amphitheatre stage that includes the aspects of site analysis, architectural and interior design, structure and material selection, simple costing, project management, and construction technique of the scale size building (model). The main material of the stage is timber and maximum size of the stage is 4.0m (width), 6.0m (length) and 5.0m (height).

The proposed site for 'Amphitheatre Stage'

 Initially we need to produce 2 A1 size presentation board within 4 weeks, but after that due to the insufficient of spaces, we are allowed to do in 4 A1 size board. In the presentation board should consist of:

- Key Plan (NTS) and Location Plan (NTS)
- Site Inventory (NTS)
- Conceptual Design sketches and relevant bubble diagrams
- Site Plan (with roof plan of the stage and landscapes) (1:100 scale)
- Floor Plan (1:50 scale) (along with the dimensions & specifications)
- Elevations - Front, Rear, Right & Left Sides (1:50 scale)
- Horizontal and Longitudinal Sections (1:50 scale)
- 3 Details of structural joints (1:20 scale)

- at least 3 Perspectives drawings

These are the designs we proposed.

Since the proposed site of the Amphitheatre Stage is facing to the sea and Penang bridge, we decided to design our stage from surrounding element. We develop our idea from Wave.
This is the Development of idea of our design.

Finally, our stage - Morwenna, means ocean tides. The following is our presentation boards:
1st: Site Analysis

2nd: Bubble diagram, Conceptual design and Site plan.

3rd: Elevations, Floor plan and Details

4th: Details, Sections and Perspectives

For Project 6b, we are required to prepare two types of project report for their proposed ‘Amphitheatre Stage’, which are Progress Report and Design Proposal Report (final report).  As the project runs for 6 weeks, we are required to produce a progress report for the project on weekly basis. The report should consist the following component:
1)discussion on the progress of that week;
2)discussion of the problem that have arisen;
3)discussion of work lies ahead, photos of current progress;
4)Schedule of work and cost involved.

 For the final report, the proposal should consist of the following elements/components:

      1) Purpose, goal and objective
      2)Background study and site analysis
      3)Proposed design development
      4)Construction method, material selection & basic building services
      5)Elemental Cost Analysis (ECA)
      6)Model Cost Estimate
      7)Project Scheduling

      For Project 6c, we need to build a physical scale model (1:5 scale), based on the presentation dawings of their respective Amphiteatre Stage design. We encounter a lot of challenges when constructing the model, according to our design, the roof need to be supported by three column which is not a vertically up right standing. Some group mates didn't contribute as others made some of them thinking that this is not fair to those gave fully commitment.

Work in progress...

Finally, we finished our Stage. We are not only here to study, submit studio project and get a great grade, but also to learn how to interact with people come from different background. I'm glad to know you all and work as a team with all of you!!!
